VIP Structures Recognized for Three Projects National Metal Builder Competition

SYRACUSE, N.Y. Mar. 14, 2025

VIP Structures is pleased to announce it has received three 2024 Varco Pruden Hall of Fame awards. The recognition highlights VIP’s role as both designer and builder on Kris-Tech Wires’ new 75,000 SF manufacturing addition, the Food Bank of CNY’s 34,000 SF office and warehouse addition, and ELG Utica Alloys’ innovative re-roof retrofit project.

Varco Pruden Buildings, a division of BlueScope Buildings North America, Inc., and a leading name in building solutions across North America, awards the distinction annually. The Hall of Fame Awards spotlight independent Varco Pruden builders whose projects demonstrate exceptional innovation and excellence through the seamless integration of Varco Pruden building systems and architectural design.

Kris-Tech Wire Manufacturing Addition | Rome, NY

Kris-Tech Wire, a leading copper and aluminum wire manufacturer in Rome, NY, has partnered with VIP Structures since 2015 to expand its operations. Over the years, VIP has completed multiple projects for Kris-Tech, including a 50,000 SF manufacturing facility in 2015 and subsequent expansions in 2018 and 2019, adding 29,000 SF of warehouse and office space. In 2024, VIP completed Kris-Tech’s largest expansion to date, a nearly 75,000 SF addition to consolidate operations and enhance efficiency.

The latest expansion includes 24,000 SF of manufacturing space and 50,000 SF of warehouse space with three new loading docks. VIP’s expertise in Varco Pruden Pre-Engineered Metal Buildings (PEMB) enabled an expedited timeline while maintaining flexibility, with early procurement and real-time design adjustments through VP Command software. The project also included renovations to the existing facility, adding an employee locker room, training and break rooms, restrooms, a nursing room, a QC lab, and a mezzanine level with storage and an executive conference room.

Food Bank of Central New York Office and Warehouse Expansion | Syracuse, NY

Outgrowing its 63,000-square-foot facility, which VIP originally renovated in 2010, the Food Bank of Central New York partnered with VIP for a 34,000-square-foot, three-part expansion completed in 2024. This project included a 7,000-square-foot Warehouse A and a 20,800-square-foot Warehouse B, both constructed using Varco Pruden (VP) pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) systems, as well as a 6,160-square-foot, two-story office addition built with a conventional steel structure to house administrative and public-facing spaces.

The expanded facility features upgraded cooler and dry-goods storage, processing areas, a dedicated volunteer space, and additional loading docks. The office addition includes a welcoming lobby, modern offices, break rooms, training rooms, and collaboration spaces, creating a functional and inviting environment for staff and volunteers.

Collaboration between VIP and Varco Pruden ensured efficient delivery of steel and adaptability during design and construction, accommodating design changes, while staying on schedule. The result is a modern, efficient facility ready to support the Food Bank’s growing mission.

ELG Utica Alloys Reroof Retrofit | Herkimer, NY

ELG Utica Alloys, a leader in recycling and processing high-performance alloys and metals, operates its Herkimer facility as a sorting and storage hub. The company is making major investments in the facility as they absorb the operations from their nearby Frankfort, NY campus. When a portion of the roof on one of the campus’s once vacant buildings required replacement, it was an ideal candidate for Varco Pruden’s retrofit/re-roof system, ensuring a durable and efficient solution.

The project involved installing a pitched Standing Seam Roof (SSR) system over the existing flat roof, enhancing durability while minimizing demolition. New insulation was added to improve energy efficiency, and fresh siding at the gable ends provided a modernized, cohesive exterior. This strategic upgrade ensures long-term performance and aligns with ELG’s commitment to operational excellence.
