The Masonic Medical Research Institute (MMRI) studies rare cardiovascular diseases, including disciplines from hypertrophy, heart failure, and congenital heart disease. VIP’s team of architects, engineers, and builders has been working with the MMRI to modernize and expand their three-story 60-year-old masonry building to support their growth and vision.
This three-phase project adds a vivarium to support MMRI’s existing cardiovascular research program, new advanced research laboratories for interdisciplinary and translational state-of-the-art medical research, and a renovation of the Genetics Lab Wing. The engineering design also accommodates significant research equipment with reinforced floors and steel beams to support the weight and a sizeable exterior opening to crane in the expansive equipment.
MMRI’s modernization enables their diversification into
other research fields, such as diabetes, obesity, autoimmune diseases,
neurodegenerative diseases, and cancer, and improves their existing
cardiovascular research program. In addition, the newly renovated facility
supports the Institute’s vision and aids in the recruitment of highly talented
medical research scientists to the region. MMRI is committed to providing
education and training to scientists, clinical researchers, and students who
will perpetuate and extend the fight against disease worldwide.
