As we celebrate our 50th anniversary, our team has been reflecting on our early beginnings and the incredible companies we’ve partnered with along the way.
L & J.G. Stickley is best known for its high-quality furniture, craftsmanship and contributions to the Arts and Crafts movement. The American furniture company was founded in 1900 by Leopold and John George Stickley in Fayetteville, New York, the company became famous for its Mission-style furniture, characterized by solid oak construction, simple forms, and superior craftsmanship.
In 1974 (just the year before VIP was founded), Stickley was purchased by Alfred and Aminy Audi, and in 1982 they expanded the original 50,000 SF Fayetteville, Orchard Street factory to accommodate the growing business. The Audis partnered with VIP Structures to design and build this initial expansion, beginning a decades long partnership. Today the former Orchard Street Factory houses the Stickley Museum and the Fayetteville Free Library (another VIP Construction project).
In 1984, Stickley took a major step forward, breaking ground on a 130,000 SF factory in Manlius. Designed and built by VIP’s integrated team, this expansion laid the foundation for a decades-long partnership rooted in craftsmanship, collaboration, and shared values.
What started as a single project grew into a journey of continuous expansion. VIP worked alongside Stickley to design and construct nearly 400,000 SF of manufacturing, warehousing, distribution, and office space at their Manlius facility, supporting their growth and ongoing commitment to quality. With each project, VIP’s focus on schedule, cost management, and seamless execution reinforced Stickley’s confidence in our team, allowing them to stay dedicated to producing timeless, high-quality furniture.
Now, as VIP celebrates 50 years and Stickley marks 125 years of excellence, we reflect on the power of enduring partnerships in Central New York and take pride in having played a role in this remarkable journey!
